Kim Churchill – Musician

When I say Melbourne, what’s the first thought that comes to your mind?
Bimbo’s pizza! It’s the thing I get most excited about. $4 pizzas at Bimbo’s every time.
What are you most looking forward to right now?
Tonight. I’ve been coming to see shows at The Corner Hotel for a number of years and I was excited by the chance, whenever it would be, to play it. That’s about as far ahead as I like to look.
Looking back, Do you have any big regrets?
Yeah, but I forget them so they can’t be that big… haha! Sometimes I wish I hadn’t done things as soon as I had. I raced into things with that youthful, almost frenetic, quality. In hindsight, I should have taken a little bit more time. TheY’Re not regrets so much though…
Do you mean in music or in life in general?
My career, my life, sometimes I am just so keen to do things… Sometimes I need to learn to relax. There have been points in life where I’ve learnt lessons. I think though in general no big regrets.
What’s you favourite memory?
Watching Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin) play “Going to California” at Glastonbury last year. I was watching this typical Glastonbury storm roll in over the main stage, I saw it ruin a lot of big acts that just got rained out and everybody left. To see this storm just halt, it was crazy. I don’t know why or how but I found it almost religious. The storm just stopped and the sun was out by the end of the song… That’s probably the best memory I can conjure up.
What’s the best it of advice you’ve received?
It wasn’t specifically to me but Neil Young said in his book “I just kept going.”
Somebody asked him, “Why do you think you’ve had so much success?” and he said “I just kept going.” I think that’s been my best bit of advice, in my life, my career, everything is just to keep at it, whatever “it” is.
